๐Ÿน How TAGR Works

Texas Archery Global Ranking โ€” Cross-Organization Normalized Performance Rankings (2024โ€“2026)

๐Ÿ“Š The NPS Formula

Every score from every organization is converted to a Normalized Performance Score (NPS):

NPS = (Your Score รท Max Possible) ร— 1000 ร— Org Weight ร— Bonuses

NPS is uncapped โ€” equipment bonuses, yardage bonuses, and format multipliers stack naturally. Top archers in difficult equipment classes and long-distance formats will earn NPS well above 1000, which properly differentiates elite performers.

โš–๏ธ Organization Difficulty Weights

Different formats have different difficulty levels. Harder formats earn more NPS per point scored.

FormatWeightWhy
TFAA Outdoor Field Archery1.05ร—Hardest โ€” varying terrain, elevation, longer distances
TX ASA 3D Unknown Distance1.0ร—Must judge yardage by eye on 3D animal targets
TX ASA 3D Known Distance0.95ร—Rangefinders allowed โ€” removes yardage estimation
TFAA Indoor 300 Round0.90ร—Controlled environment, 20 yards, flat โ€” most forgiving

๐ŸŽฏ ASA Known vs Unknown Distance

ASA classes are split into known distance (rangefinders allowed) and unknown distance (judge yardage by eye). Unknown distance classes get full 1.0ร— weight, known get 0.95ร—.

Known distance classes: Known Pro, Known 40/45/50, W. Known Pro/40/45, Senior Known Pro/45/50, Senior Women's Known, Senior Master Known, Super Senior Known, Traditional, Barebow Recurve, Olympic Recurve, Crossbow, all Young Adult classes, all Eagle classes, Junior Eagle, Youth Barebow

Unknown distance classes: Open Pro, Semi Pro, all Men's Open/Hunter/Pins classes, W. Open 45, W. Pins 30/40, Senior Hunter 45, Senior Open, Senior Pins, Senior Legends, Super Senior, Super Senior Pins

๐Ÿ“ ASA Max Yardage Bonus

Classes with longer max yardage are harder โ€” you get a bonus for shooting farther:

Max YardageBonusExample Classes
50 yards1.07ร—Open Pro, Semi Pro, Known 50, Known Pro, Senior Known 50
45 yards1.05ร—Men's Open 45, Hunter 45, Known 45, W. Known 45, Senior Known 45
40 yards1.03ร—Men's Open 40, Pins 40, Known 40, W. Known 40, Barebow Recurve, Olympic Recurve, Crossbow
30 yards & below1.0ร— (baseline)Pins 30, Senior Pins, Traditional, Eagle, Junior Eagle

๐Ÿ… Equipment Bonuses

Classes with equipment restrictions get bonuses to reflect added difficulty:

ClassBonusWhy
BBC (Barebow Compound)+8%Fingers + no sight
Genesis+8%Fingers + no sight
Traditional+8% (+11% in ASA)Fingers + no sight. ASA requires no arrow rest (off the shelf) for additional +3%
Longbow+11%Fingers + no sight + always off the shelf (no arrow rest)
Barebow Recurve+8%Fingers + no sight
BHFS (Bowhunter Freestyle)+5%Fixed pins + 12" stabilizer limit
MBH (Modern Bowhunter)+3%Fixed pins + 18" stabilizer limit
FSL (Freestyle Limited)+3%Finger release + fixed pin sight
Olympic / FSLR+3%Finger release + sight
FS (Freestyle)BaselineScope/lens, mechanical release, unlimited stabilizer

๐Ÿ… Other Bonuses

  • X-Count Bonus (Indoor only) โ€” Up to 5% extra for hitting more X rings. A 300-60X ranks higher than 300-0X. Formula: NPS ร— (1 + xCount/60 ร— 0.05)
  • State Championship (Indoor) โ€” 10% bonus for State Championship rounds, reflecting higher level of competition

๐Ÿ“ˆ Your TAGR Score

TAGR = (Sum of Top 5 NPS รท 5) ร— Event Count Bonus ร— Org Diversity Bonus

Your TAGR score is always divided by 5 โ€” even if you have fewer than 5 events. Empty slots count as zero. This prevents someone with one lucky tournament from outranking consistent archers.

๐Ÿ“… Minimum Events

You need at least 3 events to get a full ranking. Archers with fewer than 3 events are shown as PROVISIONAL โ€” visible in the rankings but without a rank number.

๐Ÿ”„ Event Count Bonus

Shooting more events earns a small bonus that rewards consistency and commitment:

EventsBonus
3 events1.0ร— (baseline)
4 events1.02ร—
5 events1.04ร—
6โ€“7 events1.05ร—
8+ events1.06ร— (cap)

๐ŸŒ Organization Diversity Bonus

Archers who prove themselves across multiple organizations in their top 5 scoring rounds earn a bonus. Scoring well in different formats (3D, field, indoor) is harder than repeating one.

Unique Orgs in Top 5Bonus
1 organization1.0ร— (baseline)
2 organizations1.03ร—
3 organizations1.05ร—

This counts the unique organizations among your actual top 5 NPS rounds โ€” not just orgs you've shot with overall.

๐Ÿ‘‘ TFAA State Record Holders

Archers who hold a current TFAA state record (Indoor, Outdoor, or 900 Round) are identified with a ๐Ÿ‘‘ crown badge next to their name. Hover the crown to see which record(s) they hold.

Records are scraped from texasfieldarchery.org and matched by name. Only the current record holder matters โ€” if scores are tied, the most recent year wins.

๐Ÿ’ก Example

Archer A shoots 6 ASA unknown distance events at 45 yards, scoring NPS: 850, 840, 830, 820, 810, 800
Top 5 average = (850 + 840 + 830 + 820 + 810) รท 5 = 830
Event bonus (6 events) = 1.05ร—
1 org = 1.0ร— diversity bonus
TAGR = 830 ร— 1.05 ร— 1.0 = 872

Archer B shoots 8 events across TX ASA + TFAA Outdoor + TFAA Indoor
Top 5 NPS: 920, 910, 890, 880, 870 (from all 3 orgs)
Top 5 average = 894
Event bonus (8 events) = 1.06ร—
3 orgs in top 5 = 1.05ร— diversity bonus
TAGR = 894 ร— 1.06 ร— 1.05 = 995

Archer C shoots 1 indoor event, scoring NPS: 900
Top 5 sum = 900 + 0 + 0 + 0 + 0 = 900 รท 5 = 180
TAGR = 180 (PROVISIONAL โ€” needs 2 more events)

๐Ÿน Equipment Classes

Archers are ranked within their equipment class. If you shoot multiple classes, you get a separate ranking for each.

  • Compound โ€” FS, FSL, BHFS, MBH, BBC, Genesis + ASA Known/Open/Hunter/Pins/Pro classes
  • Barebow โ€” BBR, Barebow Recurve, Youth Barebow
  • Traditional โ€” TRAD, Traditional
  • Olympic โ€” FSLR, Olympic Recurve
  • Longbow โ€” LB

๐Ÿ“ก Data Sources (3-Year Window)

TAGR pulls the last 3 years of competition data to build comprehensive rankings:

  • TX ASA โ€” 2024, 2025, 2026 individual tournament results from Texas ASA Google Sheets (SOY + Tournament Results Archive)
  • TFAA Outdoor โ€” 3 seasons scraped from texasfieldarchery.org (Seasons 50, 48, 38)
  • TFAA Indoor โ€” 3 seasons scraped from texasfieldarchery.org (Seasons 49, 46, 37)
  • TSAA โ€” Coming soon

Rankings refresh every hour. Cross-organization names are automatically matched and merged (e.g., "SMITH, JOHN" from TFAA + "JOHN SMITH" from ASA = same archer).
